TNT Basketball Academy accepted an invitation to the ABA Basketball Academy Summer League at the MO Arena in Abuja over the weekend, where its boys' and girls' teams competed across multiple age groups in a showcase of Nigeria's rising basketball talent.
The tournament gave TNT the chance to display what its structured age-grade programmes have been building toward: sharp fundamentals, real teamwork, and the kind of discipline the academy has made central to its identity since it established itself as one of Abuja's leading youth development programmes. For TNT, basketball has always been a vehicle for something bigger — shaping character and leadership in young people both on and off the court.
ABA President Abubakar Lucky Aliyu, Secretary Genevieve Ogechi Ihenewengwa, and board members attended the event, and their presence underscored TNT's standing within Nigeria's grassroots basketball landscape. As an academy already registered for the forthcoming ABA League, TNT met one of the league's core standards head-on, fielding both male and female teams across every division, from the Mini Hoopers up.
Aliyu presented basketballs and training gear to some of TNT's youngest athletes, praising the academy for building a genuinely structured pathway for young players and thanking the parents and guardians whose support keeps that pipeline running. Respected coach Emmanuel Odah echoed the sentiment courtside, noting that grassroots progress like TNT's only happens when coaches, families, administrators and the wider basketball community pull in the same direction.
The Summer League also gave TNT a front-row seat to another piece of the region's development: newly certified officials from ABA's Dream Alive Referees and Technical Officials Clinic ran the games, putting their training into practice on the court ahead of the proposed ABA League.
With momentum building, ABA has also accepted an invitation from the Benue State Basketball Association for a Coaches' Clinic in Makurdi on July 28–29, themed "Teamwork" — the next stop in a national coaching push that follows earlier sessions in Minna and Abuja. For TNT, taking part in this weekend's action is one more marker of an academy fully embedded in that broader movement to strengthen Nigerian basketball from the ground up.
