TNT's Favor Aleje Sunday Runs the Point for Nigeria's Silver-Medal Squad at FIBA U18 AfroBasket
TNT Basketball Academy has another name to celebrate from Nigeria's silver medal run at the FIBA U18 Women's AfroBasket in Côte d'Ivoire: point guard Favor Aleje Sunday, also known as Cecilia, who helped steer the Junior D'Tigress through a tournament that ended in a hard-fought final against Mali.
As the team's floor general, Aleje Sunday's role went beyond the box score. Running the point at the youth international level demands composure, court vision, and the ability to make the right read under pressure — qualities that carried Nigeria through a tight group-stage battle with Tunisia (a 54-50 win) and all the way to the championship game on 16 August.
Nigeria ultimately fell to Mali in the final, but the run to silver stands as a milestone for the programme, and for TNT specifically. Having a point guard developed on TNT's courts directing play for the national team at this level speaks to the academy's focus on the fundamentals that matter most at the guard position: decision-making, leadership, and control of the game's tempo.
Aleje Sunday joins teammate Lawrence Becky as one of two TNT products to represent Nigeria on this AfroBasket run, giving the academy a real stake in the team's silver medal finish. For a program built on developing well-rounded players and leaders, seeing two of its own directing and anchoring a run to the continental final is exactly the validation TNT has been working toward.
TNT extends its congratulations to Favor Aleje Sunday and the entire Nigeria U18 Women's team on their silver medal performance.
